Hydra-2026

THE STORY BEHIND THE NAME

Camp X, also known as Special Training School (STS) #103, was established on December 6, 1941, along Lake Ontario between Whitby and Oshawa.

A key feature of the camp was Hydra, an advanced telecommunications centre used to send and receive coded messages vital to the Allied war effort. Its location allowed signals from the United Kingdom to be received quickly while maintaining direct communication with Ottawa, New York, and Washington.

Using the Rockex encryption machine, Hydra securely encoded and decoded Allied messages throughout the war.
